May’s Feature Creature

This month’s featured creature hails from Loch Ness in the Scottish highlands – the elusive Loch Ness monster. While sightings of this elusive creature date back to the 1800s, it wasn’t until 1933 that sparked a more modern interest. Eyewitnesses George Spicer and his wife were driving near Lake Ness when suddenly, a beast of an animal crossed the road in front of their car. They described this extraordinary creature as having a large body (4 feet high, 25 feet long), and a long, wavy, and narrow neck (10-12 feet long). They didn’t see any limbs, only the broken undergrowth in its wake as the creature went toward Loch Ness. Their report made it into the local paper, which spurred public interest and an uptick in sightings – which solidified the beast’s name as Loch Ness Monster, or Nessie for short.
