July’s Feature Creature

This month’s featured creature hails from Rhinelander, Wisconsin – the Hodag, a bull-horned carnivore with rows of spikes along its spine. Rhinelander was a lumber town and loggers who worked in the Northwoods would pass on tales of a monster who roamed the forests. In these tales, the hodag was a reincarnated spirit of the oxen who worked to pull the fallen logs from the forest. This spirit became vengeful due to the abuse it received from its masters in its first life. The only way anyone could take this beast down was to use dynamite.

Unfortunately, the Hodag became extinct when its prey became scarce in the area. What did it prefer to eat? All white bulldogs.

Let the strong and sturdy Hodag inspire you all to FIND YOUR INNER BEAST. Don’t forget to check into Cryptid CrossFit via Push Press 14 times or more for the month of July to earn the Hodag enamel pin. #CryptidFit #FeatureCreature #Hodag #CrossFit #Kalamazoo #InnerBeast
