CCF Spartan Race 7/14/2024

Cryptid CrossFit’s Spartan Race Event is Sunday, July 14th, 2024. Most of us are in heats between 10:00AM and 10:30AM. Here are all the details to help you have a fun and safe event.

Community info:

***Wear your tie dye shirt or any CCF logo shirt if you have one.

• We will have carpooling as an option. There is a signup in the gym.
• We can meet at the gym (5070 East Main st, Kalamazoo, MI 49051) and go from there.
• We have a gym cooler if needed, but the race will have hydration stations.
• We are looking for a couple of volunteers to bring camp chairs.
• We will have a bag watcher (spectator), but bringing valuables are not recommended. There is a paid bag check if needed.

Post Race Lunch:

  • We will be having lunch at BWW’s in Grand Rapids.  (This is PJ’s tradition and as our race leader, we are happy to join him in the post race celebration!)

Tips & Tricks

  • Wear your tie dye shirt or any CCF logo shirt if you have one.
  • There are hydration stations.
  • Bring snacks.
  • Trail runners with a little tread work well, but remember they will get muddy and wet, so don’t overthink it.
  • There are a lot of paid services, like bag check, but we will have a space for our team.
  • You can skip an obstacle if needed. We are not in a competitive heat, so it’s not the end of the world if you’re not feeling it.
  • Gloves can be useful for grip on obstacles and to protect your hands, however experienced racers like PJ think the gloves are more of a hindrance than a help.

Planning ahead:

  • Wear your tie dye shirt or any CCF logo shirt if you have one.
  • Your ticket is on Spartan.com We recommend you take a screenshot of your ticket, cell phone reception is not guarenteed.
  • Don’t forget to bring your ID, and ticket/screenshot.
  • Recommended to arrive 1.5-2 hours before heat time.
  • Change of clothes.
  • Change of shoes.
  • Towel.
  • Waterproof bag for dirty clothes.
  • Sunblock.
  • Hat or visor for sun protection.
  • Energy gels or electrolytes if you tend to cramp or need extra energy.
  • Make sure your phone is fully charged; consider a portable charger.
  • There is a cold wash / rinse station for after the race.  
  • Weather: Races are rain or shine, but it currently looks hot  (88-90 F) and dry (<15% chance of rain)
